Effective ways of Promoting Positivity in Children
Why is it important to inculcate Positive Behavior in children
Children are one of the most adaptable minds on the planet. You must have seen a child wearing his dad’s shoes and tie and walking out with a small office bag. This is because they learn everything by watching people around. So we have to be careful about what we imprint in their tenuous minds and sow seeds of positive behaviour.
On the other hand, the first couple of years are most critical for an infant. This is the time that they can’t talk to us but copy us. Positive behaviour can be reinforced right from then. This will not only help them during nursery but also in school, college, and finally, life. As an adult, the child will grow up to spread this positivity along with utilizing it for themself.
6 Effective Ways To Promote Positive Behavior In Children:
1. Role Modelling:
Mostly, children spend their earlier years around their parents. Any action that they do the child imitates. It’s evolution. So we recommend you to keep aside negative emotions like anger, sadness or frustration away from this fragile mind.
We advise resolving differences of opinions between adults in the house with reasoning compared to loud arguments. Providing a peaceful and healthy environment for the child to thrive is as crucial as nutrition. This will be the most significant first few years of the child, helping them shape their whole lives ahead.
2. Being Firm:
When a child does something wrong, do not yell at them. A firm shake of the head and tightening of the face is enough. How you deal with the child greatly influences their reactions and how they behave with other children. Please note, that ‘punishments’ given by you should fit the ‘crime.’ As parents, we tend to over-react to small misbehaviours which leads life long scars on kids.
3. Appreciation:
Opposite to the previous point, when a kid demonstrates some good behaviours, thank them. Not only does it make them feel energised and proud, but they will also follow in your footsteps and say “Thank You” when someone else does them a favour. A reward might follow to make them feel appreciated.
For example, you might ask the child to help you with a specific chore; when they finish it, you can reward them with a scoop of their favourite ice cream or an extended TV time. This will prevent entitlement, with a side lesson of working to earn something.
4. Apologise when wrong:
When you accidentally step on someone’s toe or drop something and make noise, you should apologize. So the next time a child does something wrong, they will have the heart to apologize. By doing this, you teach a fundamental lesson to your children. It doesn’t matter if you are older or possess greater authority. If you do something wrong, you must apologize.
5. Reasoning over demanding:
Most parents operate under the impression that children do not understand the reason. That is wrong. When you correct a child for some mistake that they made, you should tell them why it is wrong and why such behaviour is not acceptable.
6. Communicate openly:
Talking openly with your children does wonders. We advise you to remove time to listen to them actively. And then offer your opinions on the subject if asked for. One of the most prevalent shortcomings of people is, they listen to replies. Not to just listen. This will help them be patient and develop empathy. You can do the same by sharing the ups and downs of your day. When children learn how to communicate correctly, they can avoid many issues, including social anxiety.
Key Takeaway:
Raising a kid is tough, but raising them right is tougher.
With patience, every child can be taught discipline and develop positive behaviour. Though one of the reasons to have a well-behaved child is to prevent embarrassment at family gatherings, the most important benefit is for the kids themselves. Learning these things very young will help them get ahead in life faster.
